Frederick L. Hunt, Chair, a marketing professional, is currently Director of Wholesale for Allegion US. He was most recently Director of Marketing with the Paint and Sundries Division of The Sherwin-Williams Company and held senior positions with Newell Rubbermaid, John Deere, and Scott’s Miracle Gro. Mr. Hunt holds the rank of Major in the United States Air Force Reserves and is a co-founder of Premier Flight Academy. His MBA is from Oklahoma City University.

Vice Chair

Patricia J. Mintz, D.M., Vice Chair, recently retired from her position as Dean of Academic Affairs of the Metropolitan Campus of Cuyahoga Community College. She earned her Executive Doctor of Management degree at Case Western Reserve University in 2003.  Pat has two children, including a son who has autism and who lives in a home developed and maintained by North Coast Community Homes.

Jan Gusich, APR., Vice Chair,  After working in one of Cleveland's top 10 advertising agencies, in 1996 Janice Gusich followed her entrepreneurial spirit to establish Akhia Public Relations and Marketing Communications. A full-service firm with expertise in corporate positioning, media relations, national product publicity, brand development, and more, Akhia's client list includes Diebold, GE, AmTrust Financial Services, Lubrizol, and MACtac.

Michael Discenza, Secretary/Treasurer, is Controller of the Mobile Industries Division of The Timken Company, overseeing accounting, consolidations, external reporting, financial systems, and planning & analysis functions for this $3 billion Corporation.  Prior to joining Timken in 2000, he was Senior Financial Analyst at Diebold and Inaquest.com.  Michael is a graduate of Leadership Stark County’s 25th Signature Class.

Suresh Bafna is an entrepreneur who owns and manages several national and international companies, including Jainco International (jewelry wholesaler), Jainco Garments, Inc., Jainco Products, LLC, Wrap-Tite, Inc. (wholesaler and converter of stretch films for the packaging and transportation industries), and Jaincotech, Inc. (specializing in digital imaging services). Mr. Bafna emigrated to Cleveland at the age of fourteen from India. He received his BS and MBA degrees from Case Western Reserve University.

Janet M. Banks

Janet M. Banks has had a long career in early childhood and special education which spans more than 30 years.  She is a Trustee of the Rainey Institute, Family Connections, and the East End Neighborhood Center, and is former Board Chair of the YWCA of Greater Cleveland, and former board member of the East Cleveland Library and East Cleveland Parks Association.

Peter J. Brodhead, Esq., has been Partner at Spangenberg, Shibley & Liber LLP since 1988. He is a certified Civil Trial Advocate. He was recognized as one of the top 50 lawyers in Cleveland and as one of Ohio's Super Lawyers by the publishers of Law & Politics. Peter and his wife Ellie served as Co-Chairs of NCCH’s 2011 Gala, An Evening at Hickory Lane Farms.

John Cregan serves as Vice President of Global Prairie, an integrated marketing firm. With more than 30 years experience in branding, public affairs, and marketing strategy, John has been published in Harvard Business Review and the Wall Street Journal.  He previously served as a congressional aide and trade association executive in Washington D.C.

Kristin S. Dailey

Kristin S. Dailey

Kristin S. Dailey is the former Executive Director of The Up Side of Downs, a non-profit organization serving 1,200 families of individuals with Down syndrome in northeastern Ohio. She has a brother with Down syndrome and has spent a lifetime in service to persons who have disabilities.  Kristin and her husband Matt served as Co-Chairs of NCCH’s 2015 Gala, Home Sweet Homes.

Mary Edquist

Mary Edquist

Mary Edquist is an Associate Attorney in the Business Department of McDonald Hopkins.  A native of Wichita, Kansas, she earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, a law degree and a Masters in International Studies from the University of Denver, and her LL.M from Georgetown.  Mary served as an attorney with the U.N. International Criminal Tribunal at The Hague.  An experienced traveler, Mary settled in Cleveland when her husband Tim, an FBI agent, was transferred here.  She is fluent in Spanish and her native language, Swedish.

As Managing Partner of Omni Property Companies, Pat has been involved as a real estate entrepreneur for over 30 years, starting when he was working toward his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Akron. He has been involved as a principal in over one billion dollars in real estate transactions.

Jess Gamiere is in-house litigation counsel with the legal department of The Sherwin-Williams Company, where he is directly responsible for all litigation-related matters arising from the business operations of The Americas Group, the largest of the Company’s operating divisions. Jess earned his BA with honors from Cedarville University in 1999 and his JD summa cum laude from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2002.

Neil J. Gavin is Director of Sales and Operations for Swagelok, a privately held international company, focusing on the manufacture and sale of gas and fluid systems components.  Mr. Gavin has a lifetime of experience in the disabilities field well, having a sister with developmental disabilities.  He is the second member of the family to serve as a Trustee of NCCH, following his father Michael Gavin, a founder of the organization.

Howard W. "Hoby" Hanna, IV is President and CEO of Howard Hanna Ohio, which includes Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer Real Estate Services. He directs the business and operational efforts of Howard Hanna throughout the state of Ohio and works with the firm's clients, branch managers and REALTORS to insure the company's on-going reputation for excellence.

Jason Hollander is Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Diebold, Inc, where he is responsible for the development, implementation, and continual improvement of global ethics and compliance operations in 90 countries, with over 16,000 employees and nearly $3 billion in revenue.  Jason is a member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Tifereth-Israel and Co-Chair of the NCCH Development Committee.

Ann M. Klein, R.Ph.

Ann M. Klein, R.Ph. is the owner and pharmacy manager of Klein's Pharmacy in Akron. She and her husband own several pharmacies in Summit County.  She received an academic appointment as Pharmacy Preceptor at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Elizabeth Ainslie Lynch is Vice President of Leadership Development for Fathom, a digital marketing and advertising agency.  She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from Miami University of Ohio, and an Executive MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management.  Elizabeth’s passion for the mission of NCCH is rooted in her experiences with her brother, who has a developmental disability.

Richard S. "Rick" Rivitz, Esq. recently retired as a Partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. He provides corporate, securities and real estate counseling to middle market companies, real estate developers and owners, insurance companies and financial institutions. His professional and community associations include membership in the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

J.J. Scaravilli

J.J. Scaravilli attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a graduate of John Carroll University. He began his professional career in 1993 at Charter One Bank where he was responsible for financial and operational analysis of manufacturing companies seeking financing for long term growth opportunities. It was during this time that Mr. Scaravilli developed a passion for manufacturing.

Kip was named to Ohio's Superior Lawyers by Law & Politics and Cincinnati magazines (2007 and 2008) and also named to Best Lawyers in America, Commercial Litigation, Woodward/White (2007 and 2008). Ian J. Abrams is an entrepreneur who has created many businesses, beginning with an initial success in the scrap metal market. He enjoys riding a motorcycle and has ridden across the United States and in Europe. He and his wife, Gloria, were honored by North Coast Community Homes as the 2009 Above and Beyond Award recipients in recognition of their continuing and active support of the mission of NCCH. Ian has two brothers with developmental disabilities, one of whom has lived for over 30 years in an NCCH home.

Michael J. O'Brien, Esq., is a practicing attorney and a founding partner of Cleveland-based The O'Brien Law Firm LLC. His firm emphasizes estate and trust planning and administration, probate, corporate planning, family business, family limited partnership and charitable trust and private family foundation planning. Mr.. O'Brien served as a member of the NCCH Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2015 when he was named a Life Trustee.

Gary S. Shamis, CPA M.Acc., Life Trustee, has been recognized as one of the most influential people in accounting 12 times by Accounting Today. He is the founder of Winding River Consulting, and served as Managing Director of SS&G Financial Services, Inc., until the firm was acquired by BDO, where he then acted as national strategy and growth adviser.  Mr. Shamis consults in the areas of general business, financing, service programs and growth strategy, tax, and strategic planning. He has served NCCH for more than 19 years as a Trustee, Board Chair, and Life Trustee.

Michael Gavin, Esq. is retired vice president and partner at Mansour Gavin Gerlack & Manos Co., LPA. He also has been affiliated with the Garfield Heights Board of Zoning Appeals, served as Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles, Chairman of the Lyndhurst Civil Service Commission, member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities and member of the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Mary M. Ogden

Mary M. Ogden

Mary M. Ogden is a principal partner in The Ogden Post Consulting Group, a business founded on the belief that strong nonprofit organizations providing community based services are critical to creating and sustaining a healthy and vibrant quality of life. She has an MBA from the University of Louisville and is a certified Myers Briggs Typology Indicator instructor. Mary is part of the program staff at the Center for Nonprofit Policy where she supports the Leadership Institute for Organizational Change and teaches a workshop on Outcome Based Organizations. In addition to serving as a Trustee of North Coast Community Homes, she is a member of the United Way Health and Caring Investment Committee.

Charles J. Scheidt, Jr. is past president and ceo of Commerce Exchange Bank in Beachwood, where he was able to turn around an erratic performance by generating an increase in net income and a higher ROI within one year. He now works as an independent financial consultant and assists others in improving their financial performance.

​Ed Pavlish

Ed Pavlish, Advisory Council, served as a North Coast Community Homes Trustee for over 10 years, and along with his wife Pat, participated actively in all activities. In 1970 he founded Chemical Solvents and continues today as President. His vision, insight and strong leadership have built the company into one of the strongest and most successful independent chemical distribution companies in the country today. Ed graduated from Ohio State University with a BS degree in Business Administration, Ed is an active golfer and holds membership in several major clubs around the country. In addition, he and Pat have demonstrated their commitment to community life by serving over the years on a wide variety of nonprofit Boards. He and Pat now live on BeauRavine Farm in Waite Hill where they raise race horses. They spend their winters in Vero Beach, Florida. Ed and Pat have three children and are the grandparents of twin girls.

​Susan Turben, Ph.D.

Susan Turben, Ph.D. is head of Turben Development Services Foundation, a Kirtland, Ohio firm providing child development and parenting services for adults and their young children. Susan has developed a national reputation for offering straight-forward, street-wise advice. She is a world traveler, including Russia, China, Italy, Turkey, England, Africa, Scotland and more. Her work with Russian children is extensive. Dr. Turben believes that her wealth of knowledge on infant research should be made available to other parts of the world, saying, "Sharing the knowledge is so important in light of current worldwide events, which prove how vulnerable children are and how small and interwoven the world has become."
